the undercover handshake
the secret Masonic grip
of the car couplers

they never let go

some of these cars
have been buddies for years

running buddies, they say

so sad when your buddy breaks down
and they have to come pry loose the grip

                         good-bye
                         old buddy

                         we’ll meet again in the yards
                         where all the old cars meet
